Can I use WebAI in Opera GX today?
Only if your installed build exposes the early-preview feature. WebAI lets compatible websites and extensions call an AI model on your device; it is not a switch that makes every page intelligent. Start by checking compatibility, then try one small task before installing several extensions. An ordinary Opera GX download is not proof that this preview is enabled on your machine.
Availability checked on 29 October 2026
WebAI is an early preview. Opera’s press release says Opera One first, with GX and Neon to follow; its blog describes a preview across all three. Check the WebAI setting and the official playground in your own GX version before relying on it. The steps below apply only when your browser reports support.
This is a source-based guide with suggested exercises, not a hands-on benchmark. Diagrams show our workflow, not screenshots of the browser.
Check the computer before downloading a model
| Computer | Announced preview support | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Windows, Intel/AMD, 64-bit | Included | Confirm the operating-system architecture and update the browser. |
| Mac with Apple silicon | Included | Check the chip in About This Mac and the browser setting. |
| Intel Mac, Linux or Windows on Arm | Not included in this preview | Do not confuse normal GX availability with WebAI support. |
Enable and test in five steps
- Save your work and update Opera GX through its normal update interface. Note the version and operating system; these details matter if a feature is missing.
- Open Settings and search for WebAI or Opera AI. Opera’s published route is Settings → Opera AI → Enable Web AI API. The documented internal address is opera://settings/ai; names can differ by build.
- If the option exists and you want the feature, enable it and let the compatible model finish downloading. Do not interrupt the download by repeatedly switching the setting off and on.
- Open Opera’s official WebAI playground, then Prompt API. Read its availability result before typing. If the API is unavailable, use the troubleshooting guide instead of assuming installation succeeded.
- Start a new conversation, enter a short non-sensitive text and ask for a two-item summary. Compare both items with your text. A sensible result confirms this particular exercise, not every API, extension or language.
Your first test: a result you can check
Use this invented practice note: “My session has two goals: finish the tutorial and learn the map. I will stop after twenty minutes.” Ask: “Use only this note. Return the two goals as a numbered list. Do not invent rewards or game rules.” You know what the answer should contain, so omissions are easy to spot. Keep the original beside the result and repeat only after changing one thing, such as the requested format.
- Check the device and browser version.
- Find the preview setting and finish the model download.
- Test a supported API with a short text.
- Compare the result with the original.
Before you make this part of your routine
Try a second short text in the language you actually read. A model working in English does not establish equal quality in every language. Keep your existing browser setup until the feature is useful to you. Local processing still consumes computer resources; start between gaming sessions and avoid judging responsiveness during an installation or a large download.
Do I need to buy an AI subscription?
Opera describes the local preview as not requiring a cloud AI subscription. That does not make unrelated paid services or extensions free.
Does this turn Opera GX into an Enlisted launcher?
No. Enlisted remains a separately installed game. WebAI can help you work with text in supported tools; it does not install the game or play it for you.

Ready to explore Opera GX?
Get the browser, open it and follow the steps above. If WebAI is unavailable, check Opera’s release information; repeatedly reinstalling will not unlock an unsupported preview.
The button opens the Opera GX download page. Next, run the installer and open the browser to get started.
